So many apps, so little time…which one to pick?
Who better to design dating apps for professional women than sharp female entrepreneurs? Two of the top five most popular dating apps, as revealed in a 2016 study by Applause, are created by female entrepreneurs: Bumble at #4 and Coffee Meets Bagel at #3.
Other top apps include:
- Coffee Meets Bagel
Coffee Meets Bagel and Bumble are designed with the woman in mind, putting her in control by letting her initiate and determine who to interact with. Other less-known apps developed by female founders include Sapio, HER, Dattch, Dating Lounge and Lulu. Give them a try and see which one has the right set of features for your search.
Dr. Jul’s Insight
My dating app of choice is Coffee Meets Bagel. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Cornell University found that 80% of online daters lie about one or more items in their profile. One study spanning the US and UK found that men’s biggest lie is regarding their profession, such as having a better job or title. I find the benefit of Coffee Meets Bagel is that once you establish communication with the guy, you’ll have his name, education and occupation. Ladies, a quick search on LinkedIn will help you verify the accuracy of his information. Is he really a Prince Charming or a Sales Clerk at the local pawn shop?

Which dating app do you prefer and why?
Great question, Dr Jul. There are so many apps out there it can be overwhelming for both men and women. Like you, I also find CMB and Bumble to be good apps to meet good people.
CMB – I like that it limits how many people can be messaged per day. I know this may sound odd, but a big problem with dating sites is that they let us approach too many people. The result is that we don’t give conscious thought to each person we’re considering or communicating with. It’s human nature to go wild with swiping and messaging, but it’s probably not truly in our best interest to do so.
Bumble – I like that women have to initiate the first communication via message. This saves me from knowing if the woman has any interest before I tell her my life story to only find out the profile was actually created by a 12-year-old boy in Asia. LOL.
What else should I consider in January?
January is the best time to book a vacation. Sites like Hipmunk, Airfarewatchdog and Skyscanner show it as the month with the most affordable travel rates for airfares and hotels. So even if you haven’t found Mr. Right yet, you can still book a fun trip with your besties to freshen up your tan this winter.
